Welcome to My Blog!
Hi everyone! I'm Dr Rhea Chatterjea and I live in the hot and humid tropics in Singapore. I'm really excited that you're here with me to embark on this new journey. If you're an Endocrinology trainee hoping to consolidate some knowledge on the go, or even if you aren't but are just interested to learn more about diabetes, obesity, thyroid or anything Endocrinology-related - this blog is for you!
I've always been passionate about living a healthy, meaningful life to make the most out of the time I have on this planet. Sharing my ideas on social media was always something I thought I would do, especially to bring the weight of scientific evidence to all the health-related advice that is nonchalantly thrown around. Nevertheless, the idea for a blog really grew wings while I was studying for my final residency exit exams and realised that there wasn't a friendly, approachable and easily understandable resource for residents.
I've just completed my Endocrinology training and am on a short break before I start as an Associate Consultant in November 2023. I really hope that I can share what I've learnt and consolidated over the last three years of my residency into relatable and practical knowledge bites in a way that can prepare you for exams and lifelong practice.
A little more about me: I studied Medicine at Robinson College, at the University of Cambridge in UK. I then worked in the NHS as a houseman (i.e. Foundation Year 1) in the Northwest Deanery in Central London and then moved back home to Singapore where I've completed by Junior Residency in Internal Medicine and Senior Residency in Endocrinology. I also completed my MRCP in 2018 and my Specialty Certificate Examination in Endocrinology and Diabetes in 2022.
When I'm not busy running clinics or taking Endocrinology referrals, I love cooking, travelling, reading and sketching. The photo of me at the top is from a recent trip to Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and here's me trying to look happy and carefree and less like a melted puddle in the raging heat of Florence, Italy this summer (yes it was 39c!!!).
What you can expect
My first few posts will focus on Endocrinology Emergencies and how to manage them. I'll also include a short paragraph or two for any non-medics wishing to learn a bit more about these topics. Expect how to assess the patient, basic management principles, who to call for help, and some guidance on longer term management.
By a resident, for residents
At the end of the day, I want to make this useful for all my readers so please do send me a message on the comments section - let me know what you want to read about or if you have any questions... even if you just want to say hi!
